About
Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions (Toshiba ESS) is the energy-systems arm of Toshiba Corporation, supplying turbines, generators and thermal/nuclear/hydro/renewable power plant equipment. Within its thermal-power business it developed a post-combustion amine CO2 capture technology and retrofitted it to the 50 MW Mikawa biomass power plant (operated by subsidiary SIGMA POWER Ariake) to create what it describes as the world’s first large-scale BECCS demonstration facility, under Japan’s Ministry of the Environment “Demonstration of Sustainable CCS Technology Project.” BECCS is a small adjacent activity within a much larger energy-equipment business.
