TorrCoal was a Belgian torrefaction-technology specialist founded in 2005 in Dilsen-Stokkem, acquired by Dutch climate-tech firm Perpetual Next in September 2021 and fully integrated as a Perpetual Next company from January 1, 2023. Its technology was used to build ArcelorMittal Gent’s Torero bio-coal plant (commissioned December 2023), which converts 88,000 t/yr of waste wood into 37,500 t/yr of bio-coal.
