About

TerraWatt SAS is a French technology startup (founded 2014, based in Meslay-du-Maine) developing a coupled pyrolysis + biological methanation process that converts non-fermentable biomass — green waste, wood waste and compost residues — into biochar and renewable biomethane. The biochar is sold as a long-term soil amendment (sequestering carbon for centuries) while the syngas is converted by methanogenic bacteria into grid-quality biogas. The company participates in EU-funded projects SEMPRE-BIO and FENIX and received a Clean Cities ClimAccelerator grant in 2024.
