About
Söderenergi is a Swedish municipal energy utility jointly owned by the municipalities of Södertälje, Huddinge and Botkyrka, operating the Igelsta biomass-fired CHP plant. Since 2020 it developed a BECCS project targeting 500,000 t/yr of biogenic CO2 removals by 2030, signing an offtake with AstraZeneca in August 2025. In February 2026, the Board paused the BECCS project, citing excessive risk exposure, insufficient financing, and a Nordic voluntary carbon market that had not grown as expected.
