Stockholm Exergi

About

Stockholm Exergi is the municipal energy utility for the Stockholm region, providing district heating, electricity, cooling and waste services to over 800,000 residents via a large district-heating network. It is building Beccs Stockholm at its Värtaverket biomass CHP plant — one of the world’s first large-scale BECCS facilities — with FID taken in March 2025, construction underway, and 800,000 t CO2/yr removal targeted from 2028, backed by Microsoft and Frontier offtakes, an EU Innovation Fund grant, SEK 20 billion in Swedish state support, and a €260 million EIB loan.
