Solid Carbon is a Canadian research initiative led by Ocean Networks Canada (a University of Victoria initiative) developing an integrated offshore CDR system combining Direct Air Capture on floating platforms with injection of CO2 into sub-seafloor ocean basalt off British Columbia for permanent mineralization. In March 2025 the project was awarded CA$24M over six years through Canada’s New Frontiers in Research Fund (Transformation stream) to advance toward a small-scale demonstration at the Cascadia Basin.
