Orsted

About

Ørsted is a major Danish renewable-energy utility (offshore wind, bioenergy CHP) constructing the Ørsted Kalundborg CO2 Hub, a BECCS project that will capture 430,000 tonnes/year of biogenic CO2 from its wood-chip-fired Asnæs and straw-fired Avedøre power stations for permanent subsea storage via Northern Lights. The project is backed by a 20-year Danish Energy Agency subsidy and a 3.67 Mt offtake contract with Microsoft, with operations expected to begin in early 2026. CDR is an adjacent activity on existing CHP assets — Ørsted’s core business is power generation.
