About
The Climate Foundation is a US-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded and led by Dr. Brian Von Herzen, that develops Marine Permaculture — solar- and wave-powered submersible platforms that restore deep-ocean nutrient upwelling to cultivate kelp and tropical seaweeds offshore. Residual biomass is sunk to the deep seafloor for long-term carbon sequestration, with hectare-scale trials run in the Philippines and partnerships with Scripps, Rutgers, Princeton, and National Taiwan University. The project was a $1M XPRIZE Carbon Removal milestone winner and continues to receive philanthropic support into 2025.
