About
IWB (Industrielle Werke Basel) is the municipal utility of Basel-City providing electricity, gas, district heat, water, and telecoms to the region. As a small sustainability initiative within its heat-services business, IWB operates two biomass pyrolysis plants (a PYREG PX1500 in Basel and a BIOMACON unit commissioned in Maisprach in December 2025) that carbonise regional wood and green waste into ~550 t/year of EBC-AgroBio-certified biochar while feeding the district heating network.
