About

Cotierra is a Swiss-Colombian, Zurich-headquartered startup (formerly Terra Preta) producing decentralized biochar from coffee tree residues on Colombian smallholder farms. In partnership with Volcafe/Carcafe, it has issued biochar-based carbon removal credits under the Global Artisan C-Sink methodology and sells credits on the voluntary carbon market. The company raised a $1M pre-seed in March 2024 from Carbon Removal Partners, Carbon Drawdown Initiative, Partners in Clime, Climate Founders and others.
